Kaamya Karthikeyan (born 2008) is an Indian mountaineer who, at the age of 16, became the youngest Indian and the world’s second youngest girl to summit Mount Everest from the Nepal side. She is a student at Navy Children School, Mumbai, and has achieved significant milestones in her mountaineering career, inspired by her father, Commander S. Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy.

Early life and education


Kaamya Karthikeyan was born and raised in Mumbai, India. She developed a passion for mountaineering from an early age, largely influenced by her father’s adventures. Kaamya started trekking at the age of three. She is currently a student in the twelfth grade at Navy Children School, where she balances her academic pursuits with her mountaineering training and expeditions.

Career


Early Expeditions
Kaamya’s mountaineering journey began with a trek to Chandrashila Peak at the age of seven. Her initial expeditions included treks to Har-ki Dun, Kedarkantha Peak, and Roopkund Lake, which she accomplished by 2016.

Notable Ascents
In May 2017, at the age of thirteen, Kaamya trekked to Everest Base Camp, becoming the second youngest girl worldwide to achieve this milestone. In 2019, she conquered Brighu Lake and crossed the Sar Pass in Himachal Pradesh.

Record-Breaking Feat
On February 1, 2020, Kaamya became the youngest girl to summit Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak outside Asia. She further cemented her reputation as an accomplished mountaineer by summiting Mount Everest on May 20, 2024, with her father, Commander S. Karthikeyan.
